Recent computer problems have stopped me putting new posts on here but this seems resolved now. Here are some images of an adult Peregrine falcon and a young peregrine that I took in June on the Cornish coast. I saw and heard the adult Peregrine catch this bird and hen fed it to the Young Peregrine on the cliffs.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-40469486687881503922016-07-24T10:20:00.002-07:002016-07-24T10:20:15.559-07:00Cornish Choughs near St. Just<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I spent a great week in Cornwall during the end of June and even managed a swim in the sea at Watergate bay. I spent some time with my camera and managed to catch up with two three families of Choughs who were about the cliffs with newly fledged young. This has been a fantastic year for the Choughs who have produced about 23 fledged youngsters. I captured this family of Choughs near St. Just and more than happy with some of the images I took.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-57894426080270563042016-07-12T11:23:00.003-07:002016-07-12T11:23:50.341-07:00Duke of Burgundy Butterflys<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

First post for a while but I have been out and about when both weather and work permits. These are a few of my images of some Duke of Burgundy Butterflys I took last month at a site near Tring. There were a few flying and resting on leaves on what was quite a windy day.I was very luck to see a pair mating and and include a couple of shots in this post.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-1642343478907392782016-06-18T13:14:00.004-07:002016-06-18T13:14:58.522-07:00Green hairstreak Butterfly<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For the past few weeks I have tried to see and then photograph a green hairstreak butterfly as I had never seen one le alone photographed one. I didn't 't realise how small they are and how well well camouflaged they are against green hedgerows. They form small colonies and I managed two or three visits to well known sites but either the weather intervened or I didn't look at the correct place for them. Eventually I went to Ivinghoe beacon in Bedfordshire a couple of weeks ago on a nice sunny day and found a few perched on the hedgerow and was delighted to see them and photograph them.. These are a few of my images. A few more from my recent trips to photograph these Rutland water Ospreys at a Trout farm. Early morning or late evening the hide is open and it would seem the worse the weather the better the chances of visiting Ospreys as during the more sunny days fishing opportunities may be better at Rutland water. As with any nature photography a bit of luck is required and I hope to visit again next year.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-82698411582181644762016-06-07T12:21:00.000-07:002016-06-07T12:21:03.294-07:00Ospreys<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

First post for while just been busy at work but have been out and about. These are images I took last month of some of a couple of Rutland Ospreys. I went to a local trout farm called River Gwash Ospreys where they have installed a hide which they rent out to photographers to take pictures of these fantastic birds. They come very close to the hide a times to dive for trout so a long lense is not necessary but fast shutter speed and high ISO may be required at times. I had mixed results with my cropped sensor camera and I wish I had taken a shorter lense. I hope to go back with a my full frame camera and have another go.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-50661498047363957462016-05-02T11:57:00.001-07:002016-05-02T11:57:51.696-07:00Return to Blue House farm<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These are a few more images I took on recent visits to this fine South Essex nature reserve. The Hares were quite a long way from me but it was nice to capture two together at about 7am on a sunny frosty morning. The little Grebes fighting had a long hard disagreement but both swam of to fight another day.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-44627584976604110532016-04-23T05:37:00.001-07:002016-04-23T05:37:09.162-07:00Avocets at Blue water Farm Essex<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A few more Avocet images from my recent visits to Blue house farm in Essex. This time I was luck to photograph a pair mating close to the hide. The picture sequence shows a pair's behaviour prior to mating and afterwards. I understand the female has now laid eggs so fingers crossed for that particular pair. The weather is not great this weekend so no further visits this weekend planned.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-69531698722656796132016-04-17T12:02:00.001-07:002016-04-17T12:02:43.260-07:00Avocets at Blue House Farm<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Well no Snowy Owl in Essex but over the past couple of weekends I have visited Blue House farm a nature reserve in Essex to photograph Avocets which breed there. I have not been for a couple of years so was pleased to see about 30 or 40 at the nature reserve. In the last three images the female was adopting a mating position but the male bird appeared more interested in preening and feeding than mating.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-38937919091979848532016-04-10T11:00:00.002-07:002016-04-10T11:00:19.756-07:00Sanderlings on Marazion beach.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I took these images of these Sanderlings on Eastern beach Marazion last month when I visited. They were taken on two successive grey and overcast days so I have tried to brighten them up by turning a couple into black and white. They are one of my favourite waders and I love to see them and photograph them.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-16934962665971754672016-03-31T12:25:00.002-07:002016-03-31T12:25:10.980-07:00Purple Sandpipers at Penzance<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I always enjoy trying to capture these beautiful Purple sandpipers that roast by the harbour and battery rocks in Penzance during Winter. The tide was very high when I took these and the rocks extremely slippery. Apart from the occasional swimmer of he rocks I was pretty much by myself which was extremely lucky as the Jubilee swimming pool nearby is having a major refit with lots of building work. The best approach to photograph these birds is to sit quietly on the rocks and hey will usually approach you as the tides recedes and the exposed rocks and pools become a feeding ground.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-51492855498767547502016-03-16T11:39:00.000-07:002016-03-16T11:39:00.606-07:00Fulmers<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I spent a few days in Marazion,Cornwall a couple of weeks ago so was keen to go out and take some photos. As always it depends on several factors including weather and light. It was pleasing to see some of the sea birds coming back to the cliffs to breed. When I was photographing the Crowns at Botallack I noticed these Fulmers had come back to the cliffs to breed.I went back later in the week and took these images and had great fun trying to obtain sharp images as they flew past at speed. I have never managed to get any decent images of Long tail tits previously so when I recently had the opportunity to photograph some I tried to get some close up images. A pair recently visited my garden but were difficult to photograph as they would turn up at various times during the day, Anyway I got a chance a few weeks ago and whilst it was late in the day, raining and quite dark I did manage to get a couple of images I was quite pleased with.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-47648199818903618742016-02-21T09:01:00.002-08:002016-02-21T09:01:17.875-08:00Female Jay[i think]<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A few Jay photos from this weekend. I believe this Jay to be he female of the pair that have visited our garden for the last 4 or 5 years or so. She is a real poser and unlike the other Jays that visit does appeared too frightened and usually stays long enough for me to fire off the camera.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-14438503830891055362016-02-14T13:32:00.003-08:002016-02-14T13:32:54.721-08:00Garden Jays<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have been photographing these Jays for the past 4 or 5 years in the garden but this is the first time for about a year. I believe that this is the same female Jay from 5 years ago as she appears less frightened than the male and her markings seem the same. I have no idea how long they live for but they usually raise 1 or 2 young who also visit. I messed up on the camera settings this morning and all the images were captured in basic JPEG therefore I have tried to be creative and have produced a couple 0f black and white images here which seem to work fairly well.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-12072262947319395202016-01-24T12:21:00.002-08:002016-01-24T12:21:44.824-08:00Red Squirrels<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ever since seeing wild Red Squirrels in the 1970s as a child when I lived a Carbis Bay I have been fascinated by these beautiful creatures. They died out in the wild in Cornwall in the 1980s I believe although there are plans to establish them again and they have been introduced to Tresco recently. I photographed these wild Red Squirrels last October in Hawes North Yorkshire courtesy of a local wild life photographer who runs photographic workshops there. Its been a few weeks since I posted so here goes first one of 2016 although these images of a Great Northern Diver were taken at Christmas in Newlyn harbour. I have been busier than expected at work and given much of it is computer work I have less time to editing my images. Hopefully should ease soon so I will devote a bit more time for Photography. Time to catch up on the blogs now.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-18334345968268869082015-12-20T09:03:00.001-08:002015-12-20T09:03:16.326-08:00Autumn deer rut<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These are some images I took in Richmond park in early Oct when I visited at 7 am to capture the deer rut. I went a couple of times and managed to get these action shots. The first image was taken of a Reed deer stag bellowing during a particular misty dawn morning. I have to say that for me there seems too many photographers present during these scenes and unfortunately seem to get in the way of the red deer stags. I hope I am wrong but think someone could get injured if they are not careful and also cause problems for the herds of deer.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-11037072142990708482015-11-22T14:07:00.000-08:002015-11-22T14:07:01.918-08:00A few more from Cornwall<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My first post for a while as I have been extremely busy at work and have had a run of weekends away. As I spend so much time on my work computer I have not had the time to edit my photos from the Summer and Autumn so now it is a bit quieter I hope to catch up. I have also been a bit lazy anyway thats my excuses over! I will catch up with the other Blogs as well later. These are some images of a Peregrine Falcon family I stumbled across when I was photographing Cornish Chough's on the South Cornish coast. The Juvenile Peregrine pictured here had just fledged the nest and enjoying a meal provided by its parent who flew over just as I was taking these images. In fact that day I saw seven Peregrine falcons as saw a family of four at Lands End although on that occasion I did not have my camera with me.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-36423459859752780312015-08-31T12:22:00.004-07:002015-08-31T12:22:31.494-07:00The Lizard Choughs 2015<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I had a brief visit to Marazion,Cornwall in June and spent some time photographing the Lizard and Porthleven Choughs. My favourite Chough images were obtained on the morning I was travelling back as the light was great. I spent about thirty minutes close up with the Lizard adult pair and one of their offspring, They had five young this year and there was no sight of the other four but I believe they are still surviving and still out on the cliffs.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-79197511036140710262015-08-16T14:13:00.002-07:002015-08-16T14:13:24.739-07:00Puffins in Flight 2<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here are a few more Puffin flight images I took at the Farne Islands in June. Most have now departed the Islands for the open seas and will not be back on their until next Spring. I may try and go back there next year we will see but as I said in a previous post it has to be on a 'must do' list for all wild life photographers and anyone interested in the natural world.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-74986345226599275072015-08-09T13:23:00.003-07:002015-08-09T13:23:29.187-07:00Puffins in flight<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here are some more images of the Puffins I took in June at Inner Farne Northumberland. These birds are fantastic to photograph and it must go down as one of the most enjoyable days I have had with a camera in my hand. If you get the chance I would urge people to visit there and I am already planning another trip either next year or the year after.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169174523047878369.post-59148839887969688812015-08-02T13:57:00.002-07:002015-08-02T13:57:15.001-07:00Puffins<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The highlight of my trip to the Farne Islands was seeing and photographing Puffins. Due to the poor weather the day I was scheduled to go I went the following day and my trip on the Island was only about an hour and and half instead of four hours. It can be slightly overwhelming to be confronted with so many close up photography opportunities and the temptation is to just rattle off shot after shot without thinking about light sun shadow and composition. Fortunately having rattled of loads of shots in the first half an hour I then composed myself and managed to get some some fairly decent flying Puffin images towards the end of he trip, I will post some of those in my next post. These are some of he images I took of stationary Puffins.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03952018854906116104noreply@blogger.com2
