Purple Sandpipers

I spent a few days last weekend in Cornwall to celebrate the new year. I took my camera and took some images but few wild life ones as I had limited opportunities and to be honest there wasn't much about / I came across some Sanderlings on Marazion beach but could not get close enough for images and there was not much on Marazion marsh when I was there. I therefore tried my luck on an old favourite some Purple Sandpipers in Penzance. I managed to capture these three images in good light so was pleased to get quite close to them.

Purple Sandpipers part 2

Here are a few more images of some Purple Sandpipers posing in Penzance a coup;e of weeks ago. I managed to get lucky with some sunshine and good light for about an hour so took advantage to capture these images.

Purple Sandpipers in Penzance

Anyone who has read my blog may know that I really enjoy finding and photographing the Purple Sandpipers that can be found around Penzance during the Winter months. I managed to find some last Saturday in reasonable light and these are a few images that I captured.

Another Purple Day

Not the Purple Heron again, but my old favourites the Purple Sandpipers of Penzance. I spent the weekend in Cornwall again a mixture of watching local rugby and wildlife photography. Having tried to photograph Choughs at the Lizard, Cuckoos at Men An Tol my back up plan was to try and take some more images of these colourful little birds off Battery Rocks. As you can see the first 2 images show a Purple Sandpiper eating a Wasp or flying beetle and another devouring a snail, the light was good and as ever they were ready to pose.

The Purple Sandpipers of Penzance

I took these images of Purple Sandpipers on Battery Rocks in Penzance when I was down in Cornwall in February. They are small birds and can be easily missed as they are very well camouflaged by the rocks. They appear quite trusting and it is possible to get quite close to them as these images show. I do love their colours and enjoy capturing their images when I can.

A Purple and Grey Day

More images from my recent return home to Marazion. These include a couple of a Grey Heron pictures that I took on Marazion Marsh.Whilst Grey Herons are fairly common and not too difficult to photograph I have included these two images as I quite like the light and the refection . The other images are of Purple Sandpipers that I took near the Battery Rocks in Penzance. I had never previously photographed these birds before but having seen the excellent results of Ashley Hugo thought I would give them a try. I will do so again the next time I return to Cornwall as these Birds are full of character and radiant colours.
