Female Jay[i think]

A few Jay photos from this weekend. I believe this Jay to be he female of the pair that have visited our garden for the last 4 or 5 years or so. She is a real poser and unlike the other Jays that visit does appeared too frightened and usually stays long enough for me to fire off  the camera.

Garden Jays

I have been photographing these Jays for the past 4 or 5 years in the garden but this is the first time for about a year. I believe that this is the same female Jay from 5 years ago as she appears less frightened than the male and her markings seem the same. I have no idea how long they live for but they usually raise 1 or 2 young who also visit. I messed up on the camera settings this morning and all the images were captured in basic JPEG therefore I have tried to be creative and have produced a couple 0f black and white images here which seem to work fairly well.

Jays come back

I had not seen the pair of Jays that I had photographed for the past two years recently but a couple f weeks ago one turned up. I have subsrquently seen both. I think thois is the female who very obligingly posed for these images. It was quite dark as it was early in the morning but having upgraded from a Nikon D700 to D600 I think its low light abilities have improved slightly from the D700.

Jay Puts on A Display

Over the past twelve months or so I have tried to get some close up images of Jays that frequent the area where I live. I had not much luck until recently as Magpies and Squirrels had managed to steal the nuts I had put out to obtain a closer view and ultimately close up image. Last week I had better luck however and managed to get some close up images of this Jay. Here are some of these images.
