I spent last weekend in Cornwall primarily to attend a wedding in St.Ives and the reception in Carbis Bay. I took the camera to take some shots of the wedding and the Nikon 500mm lense in case I had the time to take some wildlife photos. When I heard that a Purple Heron was resident on Marazion Marsh I couldn't resist the chance to photograph one as I had never seen one before despite looking during my visit to Cyprus last October.I managed to get down to the Marsh at about 9am which was some feat considering the amount of liquid lunch and dinner that was consumed the previous day. Five hours later on a beautiful day I managed to get some images of the Purple Heron as it flew relatively close by on a couple of occasions. I also include a couple of shots of a Grey Heron as a comparison and also because some 5 seconds previouly he had eaten a duckling in one gulp and was being forlainly chased by a Mallard. Normally I can blame camera shake on any of my images on poor technique, however if any are detected on these images I think I can blame the hangover this time and I think Bob Sharples may vouch for that.
Great Purple shots Anthony, Glad you caught up with it. Yeh Grey herons are not fussy when it comes to a meal.
